Deus Ex: The Fall comes to the PC

You asked for this: Deus Ex: The Fall came out in 2013, the first game in the Deus Ex franchise for mobile and tablet devices, initially on iOS and then earlier this year for Android - and now I'm pleased to announce that it will also be available on the PC platform via Steam digital download from March 25th.

The game is a side-story set in the same world as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it picks up from the end of my tie-in novel Icarus Effect; The Fall tells the story of Ben Saxon, a former British SAS Mercenary who underwent physical augmentation and is now seeking the truth behind the drug conspiracy. Betrayed by his private military employers, the Tyrants, not only is his own life at risk, but time is running out for all augmented humans...

This new version of Deus Ex: The Fall has been optimized for the PC, with no in-game purchase options, Steam achievements and trading cards, adjusted AI, revised tutorial, full keyboard and mouse control optimisation, gamepad support and a bunch of other tech tweaks.

Deus Ex: The Fall will cost $9.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 on Steam, and if you pre-order or buy it for a limited time after launch you'll also get a free Steam copy of the classic Deus Ex - Game of the Year Edition. To visit the Steam site, click Here.

3000!

3k
This week I passed the 3000 follower mark over on Twitter, officially certified by the Geek Institute of Weights and Measures as 6 Milliwheatons, also known as MMM in Roman numerals (which coincidentally is the nice, pleased noise I made when I saw it).

So: I would like to say a big thank you to everybody out there who has supported my work and maintained an interest in the things I write. You guys and girls are a swell bunch, and as a token of my gratitude, I'd like to offer some prizes.

From the time this post goes live until Midnight GMT on Saturday 22nd February, I am running a competition to give away three prizes - winners get to choose from either some Horus Heresy stuff, Star Trek stuff or a mixed bag of science-fiction stuff. Each pack will contain a couple of books and/or audio dramas by me (to be determined), which I will sign and personalise at the winner's request.

To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is follow me on Twitter and post this message:

"Follow author @jmswallow & RT this link to win signed stuff! http://jamesswallow.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/3000.html #jim3k"

Don't forget to include the hashtag #jim3k so I can track the entries.

One entry per person, please. Entry is open to all countries. Winners will be decided by random draw next week and contacted by direct message on Twitter.

Animex International Festival of Animation and Computer Games

Next week, five days of fascinating discussions, presentations, workshops and screenings on animation, art, comics and videogames are taking place at Teeside University up in Middlesborough.

"Animex is the largest festival dedicated to animation and computer games in the UK. For one week every February, speakers and representatives from the global animation and games community converge on Teesside to educate, inspire and entertain a diverse audience made up of students, professionals and enthusiasts from across the UK and Europe."

I've been asked to come along to the festival to take part in a panel about writing for videogames as part of the events Animex Game stream; I'll be appearing with my friend and colleague Rhianna Pratchett of Tomb Raider and Mirror's Edge fame, and we will "discuss the joys and challenges of script writing for games and answer your burning questions on the subject."

We're running the panel from 3.00pm to 4.00pm on Monday 10th February (in the OL1 Europa Building) and again on Tuesday 11th February (in the OL7 Europa Building).

Omega Squad versus Death Guard?

I found this great Hungarian Star Wars vs Horus Heresy book commercial featuring my novel The Flight of the Eisenstein and m'colleague Karen Traviss's first Republic Commando book Hard Contact...

Actually, I reckon Niner and Nathaniel Garro would get on okay...
